Vacancy | SU LaunchLab Fellow: Mentor & Expert Program Designer

SU LaunchLab transforms seemingly impossible ideas into world-shaping companies.  Harnessing the power of Stellenbosch University and its extensive reach to leaders and influencers in the private and public sector, SU LaunchLab seeks to create a mentor & expert program that will propel its revolutionary entrepreneurs by creating a robust ecosystem of innovation.  


SU LaunchLab is looking for a Fellow with a strong background in project management, innovation & execution to create an industry-leading, scalable mentor & expert program that will enable our entrepreneurs to learn & interact with experienced professionals both in South Africa and abroad. The USB Fellow will work directly with the CEO & Director of Innovation to develop, implement and roll-out the program in order to achieve the SU LaunchLab goals.


Position: SU LaunchLab Fellowship

Title: Mentor & Expert Program Designer 

Reporting: CEO 

Output: Scalable mentor & expert process for multiple SU LaunchLab programs 

Hours: 4-6 hours per week for 8 weeks (32-48 hours total) 

Rate: R2,000 per month stipend 



Every year SU LaunchLab has over 50 entrepreneurs or early-stage companies that seek our assistance in building their businesses. The USB Fellow will take ownership in creating a scalable, replicable program that will enable experienced mentors & alumni to work directly with our many entrepreneurs to help them grow both their ventures and their leadership skills. A successful program will ensure the entrepreneurs receive world-class assistance while the mentor expands their coaching skills, network and impact while sharing industry knowledge and unlocking synergies to accelerate startup learning.


This Mentor and Expert program will harness the experience of our broad network so that we may assist our entrepreneurs in transforming seemingly impossible into world-shaping. It offers an incredible opportunity for a talented, hard-working, self-starter to join the SU LaunchLab team for 2 months. This will provide an excellent ‘startup’ experience and could lead to a longer-term contract. 


Scope of Work and deliverables:



1. Create a scalable, replicable process to connect mentors & experts with SU LaunchLab entrepreneurs 



  • Research industry best practices in order to innovate 
  • Develop a clear Gantt chart for the process at the single expert or mentor level 
  • Create scalable process flow document for expert & mentor
  • Develop a G-Drive folder with all necessary information for the program, including processes and templates for the following:
    • Mentor & expert applications
    • Mentor/expert & mentee matching
    • Mentor/expert & mentee training
    • Weekly & monthly check-in agendas
    • Mentor/expert ongoing coaching 
    • Program feedback
  • Offer a final presentation to senior leadership for approval of process 



2. Create a global pipeline of world-class mentors & experts 



  • Develop a pipeline document with all relevant information 
  • Engage with potential mentors & experts to build a deep pipeline
  • Brainstorm innovative ways to engage with SU students, alumni & faculty
