LaunchLab Talk – Prof Eugene Cloete on ‘The Intelligence Trap’
Date: Thursday, 20 September 2018 | Time: 4.30pm – 5.30pm | Venue: Nedbank Stellenbosch University LaunchLab.
In the spirit of heritage month, the next LaunchLab Talk focuses on the foundational roots of the LaunchLab, namely Stellenbosch University and the impact of their office of research and innovation in our journey.
Stellenbosch University is making a significant contribution towards the broadening of the global knowledge base and is one of the most productive universities in the country and on our continent in terms of research output and regards itself as a national asset serving all the people of South Africa.
The Talk will be conducted by entrepreneurial microbiologist and water expert Prof Eugene Cloete, Vice-Rector of Research and Innovation at Stellenbosch University.
Before taking up this position in September 2012, Prof Cloete served as the Dean of the Faculty of Science at Stellenbosch University. He is also the Founding Director of the Stellenbosch University Water Institute.
He has promoted more than 100 MSc and PhD students, authored five books, holds 10 patents and has more than 160 scientific publications to his credit. Prof Cloete also serves on the editorial boards of several journals. He is a past Vice-President of the International Water Association (IWA) and past Chairman of the IWA Strategic Council and currently an IWA Governing Board member.
Resistance to change and new ideas by intelligent or smart people is one of the main reasons change management and improvement initiatives are not always effective. Prof Cloete will be speaking on ‘The Intelligence Trap’ and how this impacts the startup and entrepreneurial culture, followed by the solution on how best to overcome this challenge.
We’re excited to welcome him and you, to this LaunchLab Talk event. As always, it will be closed by drinks and networking with like-minded individuals.
