Vacancy: Student Engagement Lead

Stellenbosch University LaunchLab is seeking a dedicated, entrepreneurial individual that is passionate about growing entrepreneurism within the University. The ideal candidate will be a strong project manager with a proven track record of leading initiatives from start to finish delivering extremely high-quality outputs with minimal supervision. They will be enthusiastic and comfortable with ‘getting out of the building’ to interact with students while also demonstrating the strong quantitative background necessary to determine the ROI of projects with clear hypotheses and KPI tracking. 

 

A minimum of 5+ years of experience in marketing, project management, business development or entrepreneurial role is necessary. Position: Student Engagement Lead

Hours: 50-60 hours of Consulting over 6-8 weeks in a probationary role. 40+ hours per week if the position transitions to full-time employment 

Reporting: Reports directly to CEO 

Salary: Consulting Rate [TBD]; Potential Full Time Rate: Competitive 

Timing: 1 May 2020 start date

 

Project Scope:

  • Create a strategic plan for SU LaunchLab engagement with students across campus. This deliverable will include:
    • Mission & Vision for Student Engagement across Stellenbosch University 
    • Operational team structure necessary to execute the mandate 
    • List of programs (i.e. boot camps, hackathons, student projects, etc) to test in order to better understand the ROI of each project and those that best engage students 
    • List of key KPIs that will determine success within the Student Engagement vertical 
    • Financial model detailing revenue, expenses and operating profit of the business unit 
    • Marketing, sales & event opportunities
  • Set up a ‘student hub’ for SU LaunchLab within the Student Union (Neelsie) with clear metrics to define success of this satellite office 
  • Build relationships across various departments of the University in order to create a pipeline of willing, eager and excited student entrepreneurs that may plug into LaunchLab companies 
  • Work closely with the LaunchLab team to develop a high-quality pipeline of student companies 
  • Track all entrepreneurial student opportunities across campus for the LaunchLab website

  • Student Entrepreneur Pipeline Testing & Analysis 
  • Student Union Program Analysis 

 

Qualifications & Skill Requirements:

  • Bachelor degree a must; advanced degree holds great value
  • 5+ years in a project management, business development, marketing or entrepreneurial role
  • Experience building an early-stage business very valuable 
  • Ability to perform research into a market detailing trends, opportunities, challenges, etc 
  • Comfort in utilising both qualitative and quantitative techniques to collect and report on market research & testing experiments to test hypotheses 
  • Experience in a startup environment; excited by ambiguity, self-starter, intellectually curious
  • Proven track record of owning projects from start to finish with minimal oversight
  • Experience building detailed budget plans and managing a P&L to achieve results 
  • Excellent communication & critical thinking skills 
  • Creative, out of the box thinker that isn’t afraid to try new things, test, iterate & learn
  • Proven passion for driving entrepreneurism amongst specific target segments
